Abstract

The pleiotropic cytokine, IL-6, was isolated from a suppression subtractive hybridization library of rainbow trout macrophages, and found to be highly induced by bacterial lipopolysaccharide. The highest tissue expression was found in the ovary suggesting that IL-6 has a reproductive function.
