Squalus clarkae is a Squaliform shark described from specimens collected in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico, but whose distribution, based on genetic studies, would include the northwestern Atlantic. However, its southern distribution in the Gulf remained unknown. Four specimens (two females and two males) with a total length of 54.2 to 61.4 cm were recovered in July 2021 from the catches of the artisanal fishery on the continental slope, south of Veracruz in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. This article reports this first record of S. clarkae in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, and in Mexican waters, and provides morphometric and morphological data of the related specimens.
