This paper reports the capture of 7 specimens of Sphoeroides cutaneus (Günther, 1870) (Pisces, Tetraodontidae), 2 from the waters of the Channel of Sicily and 5 from the Gulf of Cagliari. The Mediterranean Sea, and the waters off Portugal and Azores, are the northern limits of the distribution area of this species. They are also the limits of the distributional ranges of the tropical and subtropical ichthyofauna from the eastern Atlantic Ocean and the southeastern African coast.
