Lycodes microcephalum Jensen, 1902 is redescribed and assigned to the genus Pachycara Zugmayer, 1911. It is distinguished from its congeners mainly in its few vertebrae, lateral line and cephalic pore pattern. It is the 17th species of Pachycara and extends the known distribution in the Atlantic north to the Reykjanes Ridge.
