Résumé

In 2005, a 89.4 cm long specimen of Diastobranchus capensis was caught at latitude 77°44’N on the slope west of Spitsbergen. This is the first record of a synaphobranchid eel in the Arctic, and far north of the regular distribution range of this Southern hemisphere species.
