Even though a collaboration between aquariums and FishBase could provide mutual benefits, effective and sustainable partnerships never really developed in the past. Aquariums could provide information on hundreds of hosted species, such as photos, morphological data, behavior, longevity, reproduction and early life stages that could be valued through FishBase to diverse applications. The Muséum-Aquarium of Nancy owns an extensive database, including > 5000 photos, based on its historical background in aquariology research. This paper summarizes the progress made in the past years and illustrates a modus operandi for data collection and formatting for other institutions wishing to collaborate with FishBase and/or SeaLifeBase.
