Abstract

The geographic distribution of Gasteropelecus sternicla (Gasteropelecidae) is herein extended for three coastal river basins of the Eastern Amazon region, in the Maranhão State, northeastern Brazil. In addition, the species is recorded for the first time in the Itacaiunas River drainage of the Tocantins River basin, Pará State, northern Brazil. Some meristic data and information about the occurrence of these species in the other Brazilian states are provided.
