Abstract

A specimen of the silky shark, Carcharhinus falciformis (Bibron in Müller {&} Henle, 1839), male, 209 cm TL, was caught off Sanremo, in the Ligurian Sea (Northwestern Mediterranean) as commercial by catch of the swordfish longline fishery. It represents the first documented record in Italian waters and the most northerly record of the species in the Mediterranean.
