First record and new meristic data of Gobius xanthocephalus (Gobiidae) from Galician waters (NW Spain)
It’s reported for the first time the presence of the yellow-headed goby Gobius xanthocephalus from Galician waters. This record sets a new northern limit of distribution for the species in the Atlantic Ocean. New meristic and descriptive data are presented. Branchiostegal rays, gill rakers and vertebrae counts are recorded for the first time, as well as dentition and otoliths description. It’s proposed the substitution of Gobius auratus for Gobius xanthocephalus in the list of Galician ichthyofaune.
