Résumé

Some aspects of Galeus melastomus population biology in the Ionian Sea (Mediterranean Sea) are reported. Data were collected during seven trawl surveys carried out from 1985 to 1989. Results relative to pattern of distribution with regard to depth, time, structure of population and reproduction are discussed. Galeus melastomus is found exclusively in the bathyal depths and its population is mostly made up of young individuals. Reproduction occurs continuously throughout the year and it is mainly realized at the lowest depths at which the species is found.
