Résumé

In the last week of July 2010, were caught accidentally two adult individuals of pirapitinga Piaractus brachypomus (Cuvier, 1818) in the Croatian waters. The first individual was caught in the main river channel of the Drava River (45°37’24”N; 18°33’15”E), 12 km upstream of the City of Osijek. The second individual was caught in the main channel of the Danube River, near the confluence of the Drava and Danube rivers (45°32’00”N; 18°57’03”E). Those records are the first for the Croatian open waters, and the second report from central Europe. A possible explanation of those records is that the specimens were released into the rivers by aquarists.
