Résumé

Age determination and annual growth of sea bass Dicentrarchus labrax L. were conducted from scale-readings. The regression equation representing the relation between fish-length and scale-radius is given. Time of annulus formation on bass scales was determined. Growth rates, in length as well as in weight, were followed up to the 8th year for males and the 15th for females. The curves expressing length/weight relationship were described statisfactorily. Fulton’s and Clark’s formulae were to express bass condition. Theoretical growth rate was also computed during the first seven years of life, using Bertalanffy’s equation. Spawning season extended from January to April with a peak in February. Ovadiameter frequency distribution in the ripe ovaries suggested bass is a fractional spawner. Fish length and age at first maturity identified at 20 cm (2 yr) for males and 29 cm (4 yr) for females. The relationships between absolute and relative fecundity, on one hand, and either fish length, weight or age, on the other hand, were studied.
