Résumé

Otoliths were used to determine the age and growth of the blackspot seabream Pagellus bogaraveo (Brünnich, 1768) in Azorean waters. The occurrence of annuli on the otoliths was confirmed. The growth rate was estimated by direct reading and by backcalculation. Maximum age of fish collected was 15 years and the von Bertalanffy equation of growth in length was: L = 57.45(1 – e–0.102(t + 1.13)). The length-weight relationship was: W = 0.0124L3.137.
