Abstract

The Amazon sailfin catfish Pterygoplichthys pardalis (Castelnau, 1855) is an introduced species in the Palizada River (Southeastern Mexico). Since 2008, we performed investigations on the populations of this species. In June and November 2012, and in February and March 2013, we captured ten specimens, which displayed kyphosis and scoliosis of the spinal column, diagnosed by high resolution X-ray. This is the first report of axial skeleton deformities in the genus Pterygoplichthys.
