Abstract

Two specimens of Sardinella aurita were caught in Mar Chiquita coastal lagoon, Argentina, and identified by morphological and molecular features. The taxonomic status of the genus in the West Atlantic Ocean is not clear. Our results from DNA Barcoding are in accordance with those obtained with other molecular markers, which suggest conspecificity between S. aurita and S. brasiliensis.
