Abstract

Schismatogobius vanuatuensis, new species, is described on the basis of six specimens collected from the Island of Santo, Vanuatu. S. vanuatuensis differs from all other congeners in usually having 17 pectoral rays, dorsal fin with VI-I, 9-10 and a red and black spot on the upper anterior part, and a central black spot in the ventral surface of head in females.
